Eco-friendly Guilt Free Shopping

What is a swap party?
A fun social event that brings women together to trade items for Free! The economic climate may have slowed down our spending, but certainly has not crushed our desire to be fashionable and stylish; we just have to do it in a thriftier manner. Join us for a fun morning that will bring us together to recycle, relax, and refresh our homes and wardrobes, relish “new to you items” and be kind to the planet. Read more about swap parties in this month’s Real Simple magazine.

How does it work?
For the next few weeks do some Spring cleaning. You know you need to do it anyway! Simply purge your closets of unused items, clothes that don’t fit, games no longer played, books you have already read etc. and bring them to the Swap Center (wendy's house) Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th or Thursday 11th anytime between 8:00am-12:00pm. We will give you Swap Coupons (pretend money - see Swap Rules on right for more details) for each item you bring. These coupons can be used the next day to find something fabulous and free in any of the shopping categories.

How many items should I bring?
You can bring as many as you have, but we recommend bringing 5-10 items in great condition vs. 20 items in marginal condition. This will keep the quality high and all swappers very satisfied.

What NOT to bring….
· Your credit cards
· Your husband’s permission slip
· Your children
· Out of style items
· Items you are going to have a hard time parting with and certainly nothing that will give you swapper’s remorse!
· Nothing ripped, soiled, broken, etc. This is a swap not a garage sale.

Shop till you drop in these categories…..

Women’s Clothing

This is probably the trickiest area since we are all different sizes. Bring unwanted but fab items in great condition. Think about current styles and trends. If you are getting rid of something because it’s not in style chances are no one else will want it either. Bring once worn or great condition clothes that don’t fit anymore or that you bought for a party but will probably not wear again. Remember to bring clean and fresh pressed clothes only. It may just be time for someone else to have fun with your old dress. It’s a great way to reinvent your style at no cost and clean out your closet.
“If you aren’t wearing it, it’s worth nothing.” Suzanne Agasi, fashionable philanthropist and 15 year swap veteran

Accessories

Everyone loves them, but it’s an add-on area in our wardrobe that many women have cut out this year.
What to bring…
Purses
Scarves
Belts
Jewelry and Costume Jewelry
Shoes

Kids Clothing

Boys grow too fast and girls get pickier with “their style” every year. This is a great opportunity to trade some summer clothes or pick up some great finds for next year’s fall/winter season.
What to bring…..
Anything new or in like new condition.
No stains, tears, rips, or wear marks.
Name brand items only…… NO “targét”
Like new shoes and accessories.
Formal Wear – Dresses and Pant Suits that your kids only wore once for Cotillion/Easter/Christmas/Vacation/Church and will grow out of by next year.
Ski Wear

Kids Toys and Décor

Is your child tired of that video game? Did you just change the theme in their room?
What to bring…..
Legos
Video Games
DVD’s
Children’s Books
School Books (ie 4th, 5th, 6th grade novels)
Unused drawing/art sets
Costumes
Kids Room Décor – Pottery Barn, Bombay Kids, Home Goods in style items.

Larger Children’s Items
Has your daughter outgrown her bike? Do you have a keyboard that is never used anymore? Post your larger items below for sale or trade.

Home Decor

$20 worth of paint and a few new accessories can create a whole new look in your home. Bring out items hiding in your closet that don’t work in your house anymore and let someone else freshen up a room.
What to bring…..
Vases or Pots
Throw pillows
Artwork
Dishware and Serving Sets
Lamps
Picture Frames
Small in-style Knick Knacks typically found at Home Goods. Target, Pier One, Z Gallery etc.

Books, DVD’s and Games

Bring you recent reads, old DVD’s and trade with someone else for some fresh entertainment. Have you stopped playing Apples to Apples, but would love to get your kids into Scrabble? Board Games and Travel games are great to keep updated. Please only bring items that include all of the pieces! No missing Q from the Scrabble game.

Gift Card Trading Post

Gift cards will only be traded with gift cards for equal or agreed upon value directly with the card holders.
Bring your gift card and advertise its value and any expiration dates/exclusions on the Gift Card Swap Board. You may find a taker and end up with something you can use.
i.e. I have a gift card for Home Depot, but am not planning on any home improvement projects. I would love to have some movie tickets or restaurant gift cards. Karen is busy redoing her bathroom and needs to buy supplies at Home Depot. She has been carrying around a gift card for Sage Grill. What a fabulous trade!
